At level seven, they add "Fire Shield" and "Wall of Fire" to their list of possible spells, giving them additional defensive options and the ability to create hazardous obstacles for their foes. At level nine, "Cone of Cold" and "Flame Strike" become available, giving them powerful cold and radiant damage options.
Ranged weaponry is preferable for this since the turns remaining will decrease by 2 whenever damage is taken. Where multiclassing is concerned, Warlock pairs excellently with the other Charisma Caster classes: Paladin, Bard, and Sorcerer. A Paladin with Pact of the Blade can dump their strength stat entirely and focus on Charisma, gaining better spellcasting with no loss in their melee combat capabilities, while also using the Warlock's spell slots (which recharge on a short rest) to dish out Divine Smites more often. Access to Metamagic from the Sorcerer can allow some incredibly busted combos through the use of quickened spell and distant spell, including the ability to rapid-fire 6 eldritch blasts in a single turn at level 10. Bards with the College of Swords subclass can make excellent use of the Pact of the Blade to reduce the number of attributes they need to worry about, while also gaining access to a much wider range of damage and support spells from the Bard spell list and Magical Secrets.
At level eight, War Clerics get "Divine Strike: Warmaster," which allows them to add extra slashing damage to an attack. Level nine finishes off their Domain Spells with "Flame Strike" and "Hold Monster." This provides them with a powerful targeted strike of radiant and fire damage and allows them to freeze a creature in place.
At Level 2, all Warlocks get to choose two Eldritch Invocations, unique abilities that can grant passive or active skills. At Level 2, only a few Eldritch Invocations are available to choose from, but as Warlocks level up more powerful options become available.
By putting three levels into the Sorcerer class as a Warlock, players unlock the powerful Metamagic system and two charges, which can greatly improve the class' ability to deal damage with Eldritch Blast .
Level two gives them "Knowledge of the Ages," allowing them to choose a stat and gain proficiency in all skills associated with it by spending an action and a "Channel Divinity" charge. This can make them a very versatile character who can adapt to difficult situations with ease.
When Multiclassing using the Eldritch Knight subclass, it's important to understand how spell slots are calculated. The Eldritch Knight subclass isn't a full caster, so only 1/3 of its level (rounded down) is added to the effective caster level when multiclassing. As an example, a level 3 Eldritch Knight with one level in Wizard would have an effective caster level of 2. Eldritch Knight is an excellent defensive subclass thanks to its access to spells like Shield, and it can further strengthen its defenses with Abjuration Wizard levels. This allows them to utilize the Arcane Ward to protect themselves and their allies from incoming damage, charging the ward with every spell they cast.
